Myth of London Road Exhibition

A Community Photography Exhibition 29 April - 30 May 2009
Co Op Building, London Road

Useful Arts organised this exhibition as part of the Brighton Festival Fringe. Using the derelict shop space near the Post Office in the Co Op building, we had a splendid location in the centre of the London Road Area. Over 130 disposable cameras were distributed earlier this year amongst all the community in London Road and we also received contributions from photographers own photographs. Our exhibition of 106 photographs and the mural from the Equinox Creative group achieved our aim of involving people from all the community in the project.

We were really surprised to hear from the Argus newspaper that we had been selected to receive one of their Angel awards for artistic excellence during the Festival. This is wonderful recognition for all the hard work by so many people that went in to this exhibition.

Useful Arts would like to thank all the contributors and everyone who supported the Myth of London Road and made it the successful exhibition that it was.

Welcome to the Useful Arts Blog

Useful Arts is an organisation run for and by Service Users; people who attend the drug and alcohol treatment services and the mental health treatment services in the city. Working together with artists, students, and other professionals, art exhibitions and events are organised.

Useful Arts support the premise that taking part in art activities provides therapeutic benefits for Service Users; it aids their recovery process, provides a sense of accomplishment and promotes self confidence.

Useful Arts provides support and encourages participation in arts and cultural events for both Service Users and non Service Users, opening up new channels for communication and promoting integration.
